Does my roof need to be replaced?
First you must determine the history of your roof and the current problems. Some roofs have reached the end of their designed lives, it is now time to determine if you need to repair your current roof system or replace it with a new roof system.

Here are a few ideas for your own conclusions:

  • How old is your roof system? If your roof system is older then 20 years you might want to consider a new roof system rather than repairing your existing system.
  • How many areas in your roof system leak?
  • If the shingles on your roof are excessively curled or buckled they are probably starting to fail.
  • Are you happy with the aesthetics of your roof system?
  • What is your financial situation?
  • Do you repair now and budget for a new roof system?
  • Does your roof have two or more layers? (If more than two layers you have to replace it because of State code.)(roof-over)
  • Is your insulation level adequate?
  • Has your decking become rotted from long term leaking? (Replacing rotted decking gives the structure more strength, especially in areas that have snow.)

If your roof system requires replacing and is only one layer you might consider a roof-over = 2nd layer. This is an option, but it is not recommended. (Any visual flaws on the existing shingle roof will be exaggerated by roof-overs.)

Re-roofing is the process of installing a new roof when a roofing system fails. Roofing system failure can be caused by a number of factors; including age, severe weather, poor workmanship, defective materials, improper specification of a roofing system, abuse and failure to maintain the roof with regular inspections. You should perform re-roofing only when all repair and restoration alternatives are deemed incapable of bringing a roof back to serviceable condition, or at your own discretion.

If you are not able to make that decision on your own, its time to contact a professional roofing contractor for advice. Any roofing professional should be able to alert you to a number of considerations.

What can I expect during installation process?
When we arrive, we will prepare the job site by protecting all shrubbery, plants, and flowers near your home. The best way to determine the actual condition of your roof is to tear off the old shingles and underlayment and inspect the wood decking. Chances are that long term shingle decline may have lead to deteriorated, rotted or delaminated roof decking. It may need to be replaced. We may find hidden electrical conduit, nails popping or bowed plywood decking which may not be seen until the existing roof system is removed. We will bring these items to your attention if you are home.

Once roof decking is fully prepared, we will install more than just a roof – you will recei quality roofing system. Our Best Roofing System includes:

Property Protection – Prepare premises using tarps to cover shrubs, plants, walkways and windows if needed.

GAF Ice & Water Shield Leak Barrier – A must in rainy or cold climates to provide effective long term added protection against water damage from ice build-up and wind driven rain along gutters of your roof

Proper Ventilation – Will prevent heat build-up in the attic during the summer and keep the attic moisture free in the winter. Proper ventilation extends the life of your shingles and helps prevent premature aging.

Premium Roofing Shingles – Are then applied. These superior shingles help provide lasting added protection and beauty to your home. Shingles are available in 25, 30, 40 and lifetime warranties and with architectural design (except 25 –year Sovereign shingle).

Clean Up – After installation we will clean your finished roof, removing most loose granules, any nails or other miscellaneous debris. We will also clean your gutters, pick up all debris left on your yard or driveway and remove protective coverings from your bushes or plants.

With most roofs usually done in one day, our craftsmen will transform an old trouble making roof into a new Roofing System that will help protect and beautify your home for the years to come.

Afterward, you will be contacted by our office to make sure you are completely satisfied with your new roof.

I need to install roof, leaders and gutters, siding and windows. What is the right installation order?
You should start with installing the roof followed by windows, siding and gutters and leaders at the end.  This will ensure a more consistent installation and especially will be more pleasing and functioning. For instance, when the windows are installed on the house they usually need the outside trim otherwise called aluminum capping. The next step is to side the house so that the capping on the exterior will meet the j-channel, which is the right up against the siding between the window trim. If it is done in reverse, you have the possibility of the trim not under lapping the channel and it might have to be redone. That means extra work and increase the overall cost of project. Simply said by following the right installation order you will ensure proper functioning of all components and minimize cost of project. We at Gargas Roofing are very experienced and knowledgeable to handle any size of the project from start to your complete satisfaction.

Why do you recommend having one contractor for different installation projects?
If you have different contractor installing different components on your house it can later create discrepancies as to who is responsible for fixing any later problems which might arise. For instance leak on the wall next to the bay window – can have roofing, window and siding contractors blame each other for improper installation and who is responsible for repairing it. These issues leave homeowners very frustrated and unable to resolve the problem. We were called to assist many homeowners who were unknowingly left in these unpleasant situations. On the other side, before you choose one contractor for your entire project, make sure to check his references, ratings, time in business, NJ license number, office address, real web site etc…. to ensure that you are selecting responsible company. Also be very careful if you are asked for large up-front deposit.

We at Gargas Roofing Inc can handle all the parts of the project for you and assure all components will be installed properly, in correct order and in timely manner. If any problem or issue should come up in future we are just phone call away.

Do you have any decoration ideas to help to choose the right color?

Choose a shutter color that matches your roof. This will accent the home without adding another color.
If the colors don’t match extremely close, change one to a totally different color so it looks more intentional rather than like a poorly coordinated scheme or mix-matched colors. If you can not find or decide on a color that matches your roof and foundation exactly, go with a neutral or earth tone.

Your best bet is to trim in white or match your siding.  If you still can’t decide, we’ll provide you with the address of other homes we’ve covered so you can see what type of colors and styles home owners with similar homes have selected.
